"Health" Redefined

Health in today's world has many different meanings. We use the word "health" often to describe the state of the physical body. We also use the word to describe choices, and consequences as well. We may even use the word "health" to describe our economy, political system, and the mood of a nation. However, what I would like to do is help us to understand that health is based on perception and not necessarily reality. For example, we are being told the economy is healthier now than it was in 2009. Yet the only thing that has happened is that more debt has been added to an already tremendous debt problem. The "too big to fail banks" have become larger than previously imaginable and our political system has come to a stalemate for the most part over how to deal with. Yet, how many times a day do you hear the MSM "mainstream media" tell you that the economy is healthy and getting better. I know if you are reading this blog then you probably know otherwise. I guess somehow when wages remain the same, yet food, gas, energy, peanut butter, etc. go up in price that this must be a sign of health. What about the way the medical community perceives health?
The perception is that if you take drugs that manage symptoms, and those symptoms are now controlled, then in turn  you have your health back. Yet, these symptoms arose from imbalances to begin with and we have to take drugs, which lead to more imbalance, to be healthy according to their perception. What about most nutritionist that are trained at our universities? Nutritionist are largely responsible for sculpting the current food pyramid, and eating guidelines for hospitals. Need I say more?

We have a knack as a society to take the simple and turn it into something complex. We take words that really imply simple to understand concepts and use them in ways to fit our own agenda many times. Health, in my opinion, is one of those words. If I were to make this simple, I would define Health as a symbol for balance. If you are in balance, then you can claim health. If you are out of balance, and doing things that further that imbalance, yet feel good for the time being, I don't think you can claim you are healthy. If you are eating food with no awareness, how can you say you are making healthy choices? To me, awareness is the fundamental key to unlocking this "health door" that has been pushed out into the mainstream for some time now. If you have awareness of your body, and what makes it tick, I could say you have a pathway to "health" which again is symbolic of balance.

So from now on how will you use the word health? If you have high blood pressure and are taking medication to lower it to healthy levels can you really say that you are healthy? If you are eating GMO food and highly refined and processed foods can you really say that you are eating healthy?

If you will remember that "Health" is a word that is symbolic of "Balance" then you will be able to see the truth of what health is for you. It is the opinion of this blogger that life must be viewed thru the lens of balance to live a vibrant life. Then we can truly claim Health.

So, in closing, remember Balance is the goal and the underlying foundation of what can give you or sustain "Health".
