I love garlic. I find it as a seasoning, to be wonderful for adding just the right touch of flavor to almost any food. However, today we are going to focus on it's medicinal benefits. Garlic is classified as a pungent herb or aromatic herb. This simply means that Garlic has a strong kick or smell. Yet it is within this characteristic that gives garlic it's working function. Garlic, has a tendency to warm the chest and move circulation and heat up towards the head. (Eat a clove of raw garlic and tell me how you feel in about 2-3 minutes to test me on this.) Once this movement occurs we will typically see the blood and other mucus fluids start to thin. As the mucus thins when the garlic heats things up, the lungs and sinuses will decongest. Hence, garlic is great for head colds and upper respiratory tract infections or when we feel "stuffy."
Garlic, along with this classic movement that it initiates, actually has natural antibiotic properties. It is said that 2 raw cloves of garlic are stronger than one dose of the popular antibiotic Amoxicillin. This is the reason that for many years garlic has been known as Nature's Penicillin. So, not only are we initiating a movement "up and out" we are also killing the infection as we go. All of this is done with a common household and garden plant. If you just read my take on super foods, it will be easier to understand how all plants are super after you read this, and not only the exotic ones. Garlic is also wonderful for the circulatory system as well. It supports blood flow, and artery cleansing quite well. It is strong enough to eat the plaque right off the artery walls. However, you will have to work with it for the better part of six months or longer every day to see that kind of cleansing.
Garlic is safe for kids, and adults and animals also. The broad spectrum of garlic's function in the body can not be overlooked. It's parasitic qualities prove this, as garlic is an irritant to many types of parasites in the body. We even use garlic oil for earaches as well. I could go on for a while talking about all the uses of garlic, yet, remember the following as the high points.
Garlic is an immune stimulant, anti-biotic, anti-parasitic, aromatic, helpful for high blood pressure and cholesterol and exhibits a noticeably larger function from the middle of the chest and up. Cook with it, or eat it raw, or juice it, as it can help you in just about any form. DO NOT TAKE ODORLESS GARLIC. Odorless garlic has had the active chemicals removed and therefore will not work. Just remember that. Here is another article for a little more info. Enjoy
